12 Jan 2008 - Match report KHFitC Falcons U9s (S&DYFL)
Nunnery Hawks 0 v 4 KHFitC Falcons - report by Bev Dalton
The boys started in a very slow, kind of "head in the clouds" way this week. The first five minutes saw tentative tackling, passes that didn't reach the target and little progress up the pitch. Nathan had the first opportunity from a lovely through ball played by Joel, his shot went straight to the keepers hands but things began to turn. Nathan made way for Lewis E after nearly ten minutes up front. I don't know what the collective term for many shots should be, but lets call it a volley of shots that peppered the goal from Lewis E, Anthony, Dan and Tom each time the ball was cleared one of them shot on target. It took the power of Anthony to break the deadlock on 13 minutes, and again a minute later from a Lewis E cross Anthony chested it passed the keeper. Harry gave Anthony a rest and proceeded to play ping pong in the goal mouth along with Joel, Dan and Lewis E, the ball would not go across the line. From here we began to control the play, finally the boys, to the last man, began looking for support, became less goal hungry and selfish and passed the ball about patiently building the play until one of them could have a serious effort on goal. Matthew allowed Tom to rest at the end of the first half and began the second.
The second half began smoothly, still passing patiently, Harry and Joel gave way to Ben and Anthony. Lewis E played a lovely cross through ball for Ben who took it to the goal line and crossed it beautifully back for Lewis E to push just wide. Ben dribbled and beat a powerful defence to cross in to Lewis E again, but the goal still eluded him. Tom picked up a rebound a minute later and hammered it in low from the corner of the 6 yard box. The passing game continued with all the players getting involved and none of them panicking, it was lovely to watch and see them thinking about each others next move. Harry anticipated well as usual but is was Ben who added the fourth form a seemingly impossibly tight angle after receiving the ball from a lovely pass of Nathan's right boot. Dan defended and worked tremendously hard in the first half, Matthew defended superbly in the second, Lewis M ! well nothing to add you know what he does, first class again. Rory although not pressured like last week kept everything out, well done boys. A cup match next week will test our new scoring run, keep it up.
