26 Jan 2008 - Match Report - KHFitC U9 Hawks (S&DYFL)

KHFitC Falcons  0 v 1 KHFitC Hawks

(Hawks report by Matt Evans)

What a day, what a game, what a result. After countless sleepless nights pondering team selection, tactics, and nightmare after nightmare about embarrassing score lines the day finally came. We took our boys down to Brown Westhead wearing the blue away kit. After a couple of months playing in red, no win since November and very few goals we hoped the kit change would give us a change of luck. Our warm up started and a group of what looked like under 12s came onto our pitch. We thought Ian’s team had turned up on the wrong day but to our horror it was the Falcons. But to our joy it was the Hawks who turned into GIANTS once the ref blew his whistle. No one gave us a chance; the Falcons were the leagues top scorers and were pushing hard for promotion. We were heading for a season of mid table mediocrity at best.  Right from the off we wanted it and wanted it bad. A new formation of Lewis in goal, George and Jordan in defence and then a 4 man attacking defending midfield of captain Dan, Jack, Haydn and David. It worked wonders; every player ran their socks off giving the Falcons no time, no space and no chance of scoring. The first half came and went with barely a meaningfully attempt at goal. Anything that got through our midfield was dealt with comfortably by George, Lewis or Jordan. A substitution at the start of the second half saw Byron come on and he soon earned himself a place in the history books. A cross from either Jack or David (can’t quite remember who delivered as this part of the game became a happy and delirious haze) was met by Byron who slotted past the advancing keeper with such accuracy that it skimmed the post on the way in just to add a little more tension to the occasion. Then the Falcons really started to push forward desperately looking for an equaliser to get their promotion push back on track. We saw the danger and pulled Jack (one of the more assured hard tacklers) into defence. Gareth then came on to give some more bite in the tiring midfield. Our team were playing so well as a team, helping each other out, talking and constantly encouraging each other that I think even if we were still playing now, some hours later our team would not have conceded. We even threatened further on the break.

Our team ethos really won us the game today, to see the face of each and every one of them at the end was superb. They were nearly as excited as me, Matt and Andy. In fact I haven't come down from the ceiling yet.

Man of the match today goes to George who was a giant at the back but the whole team really shone through in our finest performance of the season.

Thanks boys -  it was BRILLIANT.  THE HAWKS ARE FLYING HIGH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Man of the Match for The Hawks- George
