2 Feb 2008 - Match Report – KHFitC U15s (MJPFL Cup)

KHFitC 4 v 0 Burton Albion (Harriers win  5-3 on aggregate) – Report by Jackie Coley

This was the 2nd leg of the cup with Burton Albion who are top of the Northern Division of the MJPFL Under 15’s league and Kidderminster Harriers who are 2nd in the Southern Division with a game in hand so this cup tie was always going to be close.  Kiddy went into this game 3-1 down from the 1st leg. Burton started the stronger and for long periods Kiddy were penned back in their own half. Kiddy knew they would have to change from their normal passing game to a more direct one on a very hard surface and a 2 goal deficit to make up. Half time came and still 0-0. Burton again started brightly but it was Kiddy who took the lead when George Coley brought the ball down on his chest to slot in from a tight angle. From this moment the game changed and Kiddy took the upper hand. A long ball caused the Burton defence problems and the ball was looped in off a defender. The score was now level. Extra time came and Kiddy got a third, this time Adam Rea holding off his defender and powerfully shot from outside the area across the keeper. 2nd half of extra time and Burton pushed forward and really should have scored but put the ball over from close in. Both sides had chances in this period with Burton hitting the post and the Kiddy goalie tipping a free kick over. Kiddy then hit Burton on the break with Redd Savage lobbing the keeper brilliantly from 25 yards. Final score 4-0 sending Kiddy through to the next round 5-3. Fantastic hard fought game by 2 very good teams.
