8 Mar 2008 - Match Report - KHFitC U9 Falcons (S&DYFL)

KHFitC Falcons 0 v 5 Nunnery Falcons (League Cup) - report by Matt Dalton

The Falcons were all at sixes and sevens for the first minute and just seemed to settle when a throw in resulted in Rory making a good block only to see it followed up and put into the net by the top of division one.

1 - 0 after two minutes and forty seven seconds was not ideal and it may have looked as if Nunnery were on for a goal fest. We began to compose a little and had a couple of plays that saw us passing and attacking the goal mouth, the best effort came from Lewis E taking the ball into the corner and just missing Harry and Anthony waiting in the box with his cross. Joel had a one on one with the keeper who came quickly off his line and dived bravely onto the ball. Going in 1-0 down at half time seemd ok, we had spoilt the play for Nunnery but needed to hold better shape in the second half.

Three minutes in our defense made a good tackle and clearance only to see it rebound of our misplaced midfielder and into the path of the striker who made it 2-0, Nunnery then hit the underside of the bar but failed to put the ball over the line, their third came from three or four quick passes that covered the length of the park and confidently found the net. We were then seeing the Nunnery that we had previously met in the second half of our last clash, good ball movement, control and support. The Falcons played well and looked as if they might reduce the deficiet but were still unlikely to win. A few substitutions and positional changes allowed players more game time to the detriment of the team structure, this allowed Nunnery to score a further two in the last few minutes. We played well, it's always hard against a team used to playing faster football, a three nil score line would have better represented the game, but it mattered not, we were already out of the cup.
