16 Sep 2007 - Match Report KHFitC U12s (S&DYFL)
Bewdley Town 3 v 5 KHFitC - Report by Richard Lyndon
The venue this week was Bewdley Town's ground which for those unfamiliar with the location nestles next to the River Seven and, it has to be said at times this year, in the middle of the River Seven! The pitch looked in good condition on a sunny afternoon with Harriers kicking off from right to left from the main stand. Bewdley were in their traditional blue kits, with Harriers in red. The starting Harriers line up was Charlie in goal, Ash, Tyler, Jack, and Jordy at the back with Ryan, Ade, Mac, Ben A, Ben G, and Danny making up the midfield and attacking line up. Subs were H, Fletch and later joined by Sam.
Harriers kicked off and despite Bewdley having some early pressure it wasn't long before there was a break down the left side with Ben A feeding it into Ben G who struck it with his left foot into the bottom right of the Bewdley goal to go 0-1 up. Bewdley were a constant threat throughout the afternoon from their left sided midfielder who had both pace and skill and it was not long before a long ball through the middle of the Harriers defence resulted in a Bewdley equaliser. Shortly after another through ball required good work from Charlie in goal who blocked the first attacker with a second shooting just wide of the right hand post. The game entered a scrappy phase with both teams trying to grapple for possession.
Bewdley had further a further chance denied by the Harrier's crossbar on 23 minutes and there followed a series of corners for Bewdley after resolute defending by Harriers to soak up the pressure. Harriers then went 1-2 into the lead on 27 minutes after good work by Ryan and Danny that led to a shot by Mac with his right foot into the right hand corner of the goal. That was how the first half ended.
For the start of the second half, Fletcher came on a substitute for Ade. After good passing from Fletcher and Mac, Jordy skipped through the defence to clip the ball with his left foot into the right hand side of the goal to make it 1-3 to the Harriers. Then in the sixth minute Ben G crossed the ball from the left wing and Danny arched backwards to meet the cross to head home to make it 1-4. Sam came on for Mac on 8 minutes and H came on for Danny up front on 9 minutes. Ben G was replaced by Ade on 12 minutes.
After a break down the right on 14 minutes from Bewdley their right winger shot with his right foot to put the ball in the bottom left hand corner to make the score 2-4. The game entered a further scrappy phase as both sides tried to gain the momentum. On 23 minutes Fletcher went off and Ben G came back on. This was followed shortly after by a "pacey" run down the left hand side by the dangerous Bewdley left sided midfielder who shot with his left foot into the bottom right hand side of the Harriers goal. This made it 3-4 to Harriers.
Following a through ball from Ryan through the centre, H was beaten to the ball by the Bewdley keeper on 25 minutes. Harriers battled away holding firm and in the 35th minute, a superb free kick was crossed from the left by Ben G, finding Ryan who turned and shot past the keeper's left hand into the bottom corner to make it 3-5 to the Harriers. The full time whistle came with both teams deserving applause for a hard fought and entertaining game which was well refereed throughout.
Manager, Ian and Coaches Dave & Karl were all quoted by the press gathering after as being "over the moon" with the performance, although Dave (Coach and Child Protection Officer) later controversially denied rumours of having being heard to shout "take him out Charlie!!" when Bewdley had a through ball 'one on one' chance in the second half.
