Group B - League Cup: Report by Jacky G [sub]

Starting line up -  Charlie, Tyler, Ashley, Adrian, Jack, Macauley, Ben A, Ben G, Harry, Ryan, Daniel

Subs - H and Fletch

Our first league cup match of the season in  the new European Cup format, away at Kinver, kicked off at 2.15 pm. Harriers came out straight from the whistle with a chance for Harry after 2 mins. Kinver countered with two quick breaks. Their first chance was cleared well by our defence and the second produced a near miss. More chances followed to both sides with Harriers winning a couple of corners. Jack and Macauley were strong in midfield and Adrian and Ashley confidently cleared the ball in defence. Kinver always looked dangerous on the quick break from their No.10 but a good run back from Adrian foiled another attack. Harriers pushed forward with a great strike across the goalmouth from Ben A. Ben A put in a corner to Ben G who shot just wide. A great long ball from Tyler created another chance to Harriers. A swerving corner from Ben G was headed into the net by Harry for our first goal after 25 mins. Harriers held the lead to the end of the first half with some great mid-field and defensive play helped by ‘in-form’ Adrian pushing the long ball through from defence.

First half 0-1

Fletch came on for Daniel and started strongly. Early Kinver pressure from a couple of good attacking moves brought them an equalizer on the break after 5 minutes. H came on for Jack, and Daniel back on for Harry. A great joint effort on goal from Daniel and Ben G gave us a corner. Ryan took the corner and Ben G scored to put us back in the lead after 20 mins. Harry came back on for Ben G. Kinver shot wide across the goal then equalised again with 5 mins to go. Our lads fought back with a great run from Ben A and cross to Ryan that went just wide. Jack and Ben G came back on for the last few tense minutes with the whole team battling hard to win. Charlie saved well to keep us level and Kinver had another chance soon after which went across the goal. In the final minute, a long shot from Adrian was saved by the keeper on the bounce.

Final score, 2-2. A game we could have won if a couple of decisions had gone our way. All our lads played well, putting in a great effort right to the end. Sometimes you don’t win, but as long as the lads try hard and don’t give up, we can’t ask any more of them. Well done Harriers!!!
