24 Nov 2007 - Match Report KHFitC U17s (MJPFL)
Nuneaton Borough U18s 6 v 2 KHFitC U17s - report by Malc Wilson
Well we are back after our enforced few weeks off and we have picked up just about where we left off as the Kiddy injury jinx struck our team yet again.
In a tight first half where we dominated a lot of periods, we found ourselves 3-1 down at half-time all to set pieces against a strong wind and on an icy pitch. With the loss of our keeper Wayne to Birmingham City, Sammy did us proud yet again in taking over in goal for only his third time ever, although not having the size, strength ability or height to cope with the crosses that were carried in by the wind. Nuneaton struck twice in the first 25 minutes but Callum scored a superb goal from 20 yards after a great ball from Nafe to make it 2-1. With three minutes of the first half left Joe and Nick collided as they both challenged a ball and Joe managed to continue but Nick had to come off with mild concussion which was just the start of things going dreadfully wrong yet again. So back to normal with our luck as Abs arrived at a ball the same time as a Nuneaton lad and the crack echoed around the ground as his leg broke just above the ankle.
With play suspended in the freezing cold for 30 minutes for the Paramedic and Ambulance to deal with his injury that was as much of the game as I saw as off we went to Hospital until 5pm.
Apparently Sam and Reg threw themselves at everything during the second half and Callum grabbed a fortunate goal as Nuneaton extended their lead after Nafe was carried off with ankle ligament damage 5 minutes after the ambulance left just to add insult to.....yes...injury.
Dan and Awale made their debuts with good effect, so welcome lads!
The final score was a highly flattering one as for much of this game we were just as good as the highly rated opposition but that sums up this appalling season of sustaining long-term injuries.
Good Luck to Wayne and Nick at Birmingham City which is great for them, but another two fine players lost for the team.
So we now face Solihull with hopefully 11 fit lads so keep your chins up lads....the tide must change soon........hopefully!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!...think I may have said that before somehow!
